Sciatica Treatment

Sciatica refers to pain that radiates along the path of the sciatic nerve, which branches from your lower back through your hips and buttocks and down each leg. Typically, sciatica affects only one side of your body and is often caused by a herniated disc, bone spur on the spine, or narrowing of the spine compressing part of the nerve.

What are the common symptoms?

• Pain that radiates from your lower spine to your buttock and down the back of your leg\n• The pain can vary widely, from a mild ache to a sharp, burning sensation or excruciating pain\n• Numbness, tingling or muscle weakness in the affected leg or foot

How do we treat this condition?

Our sciatica protocols focus on relieving nerve pressure. We utilize directional preference exercises (like McKenzie extension exercises), nerve gliding techniques to restore nerve mobility, and deep tissue massage for associated muscle spasms. Core strengthening is then introduced to stabilize the lumbar spine.

When should you see a physiotherapist?

Seek immediate attention if you experience sudden, severe pain in your low back or leg, muscle weakness in your leg, or if the pain follows a violent injury.
